Valentine’s design contest – the winner
Allisha, congratulations on winning the Valentine’s design contest! We received loads of great concepts, but yours was head and shoulders above the rest. How did you come up with the idea?
“I am not currently in a relationship, so I started with the question: how do you make Valentine’s Day accessible to everyone? The longest relationship you have is with yourself, so it is important to be good to yourself. Valentine’s Day is the ideal day to dwell on that, and a nice lingerie set makes every woman happy, doesn’t it?”
What does a good window display do for you and what requirements should a good display fulfil?
“A window display needs to appeal to a wide audience and also to you as an individual. I like a message that speaks to me or a must-have item which is highlighted in a special way.”
“I always stay close to my feelings and the theme of loving yourself came to me. I then started sketching and looking for materials that would go with this concept, and of course which are also used in lingerie. That took shape in a 3D miniature window display.”
What do you think of the results?
“It was great to see the process from communication concept to ordering materials to setting up in the store. My idea has been worked out really well and I am totally happy with the results!”
What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?
“I’ve actually been too busy revising for my interim exams to be thinking about Valentine’s Day, ha ha. I think I’m going to organise a spa day with some girlfriends; we’ll have facemasks, get our nails done and of course enjoy some nice drinks & snacks. I did get the chance to pick out my favourite Valentine’s lingerie set, so I’ll feel extra beautiful on that day.”
“I know it’s all too easy to compare yourself to others. Particularly in an age when you are confronted with images of perfection every day on social media. So especially on Valentine’s Day, let’s all be good to ourselves and remind ourselves that we are OK. Will you be taking part and sticking a memo on your mirror with #notetoself?”
