Interview with fitness coach Kasia Rain
You’ve suffered from anorexia in the past and were very obsessed with food because you felt you’d only really be happy until you’d met the standards of the ideal image. And then there came a turning point in your life and you decided to turn things around. How exactly did you tackle this and how did you reach your balance in life?
“I was incredibly unhappy when I was younger and lacked self-confidence. Having anorexia made me obsess about food and I had no social life. At a certain point, I looked in the mirror and decided that things couldn’t go on as they were. I took small steps at first, like taking up yoga and meditation, to try to find a balance. I became more and more healthy and had to work hard to achieve this lifestyle.”
What do you need to keep the right balance? Do you ever have a little dip?
“It’s very important to love yourself and to accept when you’re having a bad day. Keep things light and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Everyone has an off day every now and then, don’t they? After all, being perfect is boring ;).”
How do you combine a healthy way of living with a busy life? Tips?
“I’m a workaholic, ha-ha. Which is why it’s important you continue to listen closely to your body, and when your body says it needs to rest you listen to it. Eating enough food and healthy food to boot will energise you – this is what fuels you after all.”
“On average, I train 3-4 times a week. But I don’t feel guilty if I can’t train on a particular day. It’s good to mix up your routine. When I feel out of sorts, I focus on yoga, and when I’m bursting with energy I go boxing. Exercise because you can and because you love yourself.”
What’s your guilty pleasure?
“Pizza! A nice Italian pizza, followed by ice cream, delicious! I eat dark chocolate every day, nothing wrong with that. Otherwise I eat very well, but what food works for you is a very personal matter. So go experiment and you’ll find out what works best for you.”
What are you most proud of? And going forward, what’s your biggest dream?
“My strength. I’ve really changed as a person. My self-acceptance gives me a lot of positive energy and I really want to motivate, inspire and help as many people as possible. That’s why I’ve brought out a DVD and a cookbook, to show that it’s very easy to develop a healthy lifestyle. Being healthy doesn’t have to be complicated.”
“This year, it’s #no_excuses! It takes 12 minutes to do the workout for your abs, bum and legs. You can do these exercises from the comfort of your own home and you can decide yourself whether you want to train a specific area or go for all three. The exercises are inspired by yoga, Pilates and fitness training, and are simple but effective. You gonna join in?”
