A girl’s guide to London
Within 3.5 hours, I’m stepping off the train from my hometown of Newcastle at King’s Cross and wandering into the city. There are people, taxis and buses everywhere and I’m surrounded by every language you can think of. A real world city, which I have a whole weekend to explore. Love it! But of course I have a mission – I’m on the hunt for the best spots around the city. Because, with Christmas just around the corner, there’s every excuse to treat yourself.

London is actually a major hotspot. You can eat the best sushi (at Novikov, for example), discover dozens of cool markets (like Covent Garden and Greenwich Market) and go all out enjoying the luxury the city has to offer in its many shopping centres. But the places below are really a head and shoulders above the rest. 100% decadence!
# Afternoon tea @ Sketch
A visit to London isn’t complete without an afternoon tea. You can choose a traditional version, but of course there are trendier options too. If that’s what you’re looking for, Sketch is the place to be. The interior alone is a feast for the eyes. The separate rooms are all decorated differently and each is as bright and colourful as the last. And don’t forget to visit the bathrooms. The huge eggs look like space shuttles and the nature documentary playing in the background creates a truly bizarre atmosphere.
Tip: The full afternoon tea, with champagne, of course, is a must. Delicious tarts, cupcakes and fresh scones with sandwiches, you won’t need dinner in the evening ;). And if you’re more in the mood for an ‘ordinary lunch’, don’t worry as these are delicious too. The steak tartare is a winner!

‘Am I in the right place?’ I check the address again, because this can’t be right. I peek around the corner anyway. There’s a lady sitting on a stool…It’s all very strange. This is probably how most people feel visiting La Bodega Negra for the first time. It seems as if you’ve arrived at a gay bar but then the lady on the stool helps you. If you have a reservation, a door opens in front of you and after a short walk underground, you find yourself in a super trendy cocktail bar.
Tip: The fact that the food there is delicious too makes La Bodega Negra my absolute favourite. Once seated at a table, you’re served the best Mexican dishes and amazing cocktails. If you can’t decide what to order, I would recommend the corn dish (trust me, even if you’re not sure it’s your cup of tea – pun intended). The flatbread is great too. Of course accompanied by a caipirinha, cheers!

Anyone who visits London has to go to Harrods. But I prefer to head straight to Selfridges. They have absolutely everything. From the biggest, unaffordable brands to Scandinavian and French high-street fashion. The lunch is great too. I can spend hours there. Touching all the beautiful fabrics, drooling over the wonderful evening gowns, nearly bankrupting myself in the shoe department and finding a nice pair of jeans that my bank account can handle.
Tip: The high-fashion department is full of the most beautiful and extravagant dresses. Don’t miss them! Stroll around and if you can already see yourself strutting down the red carpet, take your chance and arrange a fitting session.

London, I love you. See you soon!
