GUESTBLOG: SOPHIE VAN DER STAp
It’s December again, and we all know what that means: time for Shapewear.
While lingerie windows may be full of cutesy Christmas undies these days, you and I know better. The cold, mince pies, stuffed turkey, a swig of wine to swallow it all down with, the same again tomorrow and the day after that, all in the most elegant– and tightest-fitting – dress off the rack.
Once upon a time, Shapewear was called spandex. Fortunately, a lot has changed since then. This is how it used to go: “Like regular knickers, you’d put your feet through the leg holes and pull up the control panties. But be warned! Halfway up your thigh, you’d also pull up any surplus thigh and belly fat, like a sausage bursting from its skin. Once pulled up to your waist, you’d let go of the not very elastic waistband.
And ping! Everything was back where it should be. The result may have been rewarding – a whole dress size smaller – but we paid a high price for it: only a few hours later and the panties would start to pinch/sweat/itch. Let one thing be clear though: Spandex was there to land a catch, not to eat it.
Good news: technology has improved, and it’s called Shapewear. Soft, elastic cotton that’s like a second skin on your belly and still does what it’s supposed to do: you look a size smaller, without any unpleasant itching and sweating. And more importantly: it’s not only there for that first date, but also for The Date.
